 Technical Knowledge Base

 Product Installation:

I Am Unable To Install The Product On My Computer.

  • CertGear software products have been tested on Mac OS X, Window 7, Vista, XP, 2003, 2000, ME, NT, 98. Although our software products do NOT require Administrator privileges to run, you still need the appropriate O/S permissions to be able to install any new programs. Please check with your computer admin to see whether you have adequate permissions to install new programs.

  • If you are running Mac OS X, please be sure to install Java on your Mac and be sure to enable Java WebStart applications.

  • If you are running a non-English version of Windows (i.e. Japanese, Korean, etc..), please save and run the Software Program in a directory that does NOT contain any extended characters.

  • If you see the following error message: "The magic number did not match", your download may have been corrupted. A firewall / proxy may have interfered with and corrupted your software download. In this situation, please check with your computer admin / firewall admin in order to download a good copy of our software.

  • If you see the following error message: "Unable to access directory. Please ensure directory is readable / writable", please grant our application read / write privileges to the appropriate directory. If you are running any anti-virus software (such as WebRoot, McAfee, Symantec), please configure your AV software to allow our application to write to the appropriate directory.

  • There have also been reported problems with our installers and Dell OpenManager. If OpenManager is installed on the target system, make sure to disable it prior to executing the install.

  • If you're running Windows XP SP2 or Windows 2003 SP1, the installation may stop during extraction phase. This is due to conflicts with a new Windows "feature" called "Data Execution Prevention" (DEP). This feature must be turned OFF for our installers to run.

      1) Click Start, right click on My Computer, and select Properties.
      2) On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance.
      3) Select the 'Data Execution Prevention' Tab.
      4) Select the radio button for "Turn on DEP ... except those I select:"
      5) Select "Add" and select the CertGear installer (the entry shows up as "InstallAnywhere Self-Extractor" in the dialog).
      6) Select Apply on the Performance Options and OK on the System Properties page.
      7) Run the CertGear Installer

  • There have also been reported issues with certain video cards. If none of the above recommendations work, please try turning your hardware acceleration display setting to off.

    • Type dxdiag at the command line to bring up video card configuration
    • From within the "Display" tab, Click "Disable" to turn off the hardware acceleration.

How Do I Upgrade To The Latest Version?

  • To upgrade to the latest version, simply download the latest version from our web-site, and over-write your existing installation.

Product Activation:

I Just Purchased The Software, But I Am Unable To Activate The Software

  • The most common reason for this is due to mis-typed e-mail addresses in the license activation page. When entering your email in the license activation page, please double-check to make sure that you are using the same e-mail address you used during your purchase. Please also double-check for any typo's.

  • Are you activating the same product that you had purchased? Please verify that you are activating the correct product.

  • If you just purchased the software, our system may be awaiting payment confirmation from our payment processor. Sometimes, our payment processor may be delayed in processing your payment. If your payment has not been processed after one hour, please send an e-mail to our payment processor directly asking for a resolution.

  • If Your Computer Has Un-Restricted Internet Access, Please Review The Following Activation Instructions.

  • If Your Computer Has Internet Access, But Access Is Limited By A Firewall Or A Proxy, Please Review The Following Activation Instructions.

  • If Your Computer Does NOT Have Any Internet Access, Please Review The Following Activation Instructions.

How Do I Install And Activate The Software On Multiple Computers?

  • CertGear Software Can Be Installed On Multiple Computers. However, In Order To Keep Our Prices Low, CertGear Issues Software Licenses For Each Product. Each Original Licensee Is Allowed Up To 2 Software Licenses For Each Product.

  • If you want to use the software on multiple computers, you'll need to activate the software on each computer separately. See activation instructions above for further information.

I Downloaded A License For ComputerA, But I'm Unable To Use The License On ComputerB

  • Licenses are NOT transferable between different computers. A license generated for ComputerA will NOT work on ComputerB. If you want to activate the software on multiple computers, you'll need to download a license for each computer. See activation instructions above for further information.

The Software Was Working Yesterday, But Switched Back To "Demo" Mode Today

  • Licenses are tied to a particular Windows user. If you activated the Software under "UserA", the license will NOT be valid for "UserB". Hence, please be sure to login as the original user which was used to activate the software.

  • Windows user-names are also case-sensitive. Upper-case "USERA" is NOT the same as lower-case "usera". Please be sure to login as the original user with the same case-sensitivity.

When Activating The Software, I Received An "xyzException" Message

  • A firewall / proxy is interfering with and corrupting the download of the license key. Please ask your network / firewall administrator for assistance.

  • If your firewall administrator is unable to resolve the problem, please try the following "Offline Activation" procedures:

    • 1) Temporarily disconnect your computer from the network
    • 2) Reattempt the activation steps, with your computer disconnected from the Internet
    • 3) The software will automatically prompt you to perform "Manual" activation
    • 4) Follow the screen prompts, and click "No" when asked whether Internet connectivity is available
    • 5) Follow the instructions to save the "Activation Link" onto a separate computer that has unrestricted access to the Internet
    • 6) Download the License Key using the unrestricted computer, and import the License Key into the software
    • For additional instructions, Please Review The Following Activation Instructions

I Manually Downloaded A License Key, But Was Not Able To Import The Key Successfully

  • Please ensure that you saved the License File in its entirety on to your computer. Please do NOT open the License File and do NOT extract the contents of the License File. Please be sure to import the key in its entirety into the application.
